My 2016 Highlights

It’s safe to say that 2016 wasn’t the best year for the world/humanity, however for me it was filled with highlights and so many of my goals came true. Were my goals more shallow than the average person’s who wishes to get in shape and be more positive? Absolutely. But as I was taking a moment to cherish all the good things that happened in 2016, I decided to tell you about everything as well – hey, great opportunity to get back to blogging!

So let’s make a start…

I finally got to see London! 3 times actually!

In the beginning of last year visiting London was almost at the top of my wishlist. I was at the point where I’ve lived in the UK for more than a year and hadn’t had the chance to visit the capital yet. So in February right after my birthday I took my boyfriend at the time on a nice 3 nights getaway – just in time for Valentine’s Day! Then my best friend visited in July and November and of course I had to drive down and see her 🙂 I think it’s safe to say I fell in love with London, its beauty, all it has to offer and, believe it or not, I love how busy it is (yes, I am a capital & big cities kind of girl).

I got promoted!

That has to be one of the best highlights of 2016. Not because I have the most amazing job – far from that actually, but I was sick and tired of working day shifts. Working nights is so much more suitable for me, I met amazing new people whom I became friends with and hey, the pay rise allowed me to make other dreams come true. It took 6 months from when I applied to when I finally started as a Team Leader, but I love how challenging it is and how it always makes me get out of my comfort zone. Yay for growing as a person!

I got a BMW!
Have I told you my dreams and goals are more shallow? Ever since I was a kid I wanted to drive a BMW. No idea why, I didn’t/don’t even know much about cars or the brand. But I know that my car is everything I dreamt of and more. Yes it’s on finance, and yes I have to pay back more than half the price of what it was worth, but I thought hey, if I don’t make my own dreams come true, nobody will. Another one of the best highlights of the year!

Summer holiday in Tenerife!
One of my goals for 2016 was to spend my summer holiday in a place/country I have never been to before. It was hard to choose and slightly last minute, but I’m happy I went to Tenerife. It is such a beautiful place. When people asked me how it was I described it as ‘imagine if you die and you go to heaven, that’s what it feels and looks like’.

New friendships!!
Moving to another country can be boring if you don’t have people to spend your time with. And since I don’t exactly approach strangers on the street asking if they wanna be my buddies, for me it was reeeallyyyy boring that for more than a year. As I said earlier, changing shifts gave me the opportunity to meet absolutely amazing people. Fun fact, most of my new friends are Polish and when we all get together I am the only one who doesn’t speak the language. I still wonder how and why they like me so much (especially given that I am their boss), but I feel very grateful. 🙂

I went to Egypt!

Travelling has certainly been another one of my biggest highlights. Have any of you watched The Mummy movies? I used to be obsessed with part 1 & 2 when I was about 6-7 years old. Would watch them every single day, sometimes a couple times a day. And then I realized, holy hell, I am going to Egypt!! How amazing is that? It was more of a random decision, I was basically looking for a nice and hot place to visit in October and that came up as one of the top countries to go to. I saw the prices are pretty cheap (apart from the plane tickets) so I booked 3 nights in Cairo and 4 in Hurghada. Only then I realized how I was always watching those movies as a kid and what an amazing opportunity I have.
The pyramids are absolutely fantastic, Cairo is pretty damn awesome for the most part and oh boy, Hurghada is out of this world! I went on a boat trip one day to Orange Island I think it was? I might be totally wrong. But for a moment I was not sure if that was my real life or if I was just watching an episode of Keeping up with the Kardashians. Such beautiful views, I don’t know why there aren’t more people travel who to Egypt!

I went on a desert safari, did scuba diving and snorkeling!
Yes, these happened while I was in Egypt but I just wanted to show off and share more pictures with you 🙂

I am healthy and I’m never going to take that for granted again!
Last but definitely not least highlight of 2016. The biggest one, actually. Are you wondering why I am attaching a photo of me wearing a Santa hat, given that I am writing this post on January 1st? Well, that selfie was taken a little over 24 hours after I had a car accident on the motorway. 2 days before Christmas. All I had was a small scratch that disappeared overnight. It could have gone terribly long, yet here I am healthy, safe and feeling like one of the luckiest persons alive. The car crash broke my heart on a whole ‘nother level, nothing I experienced before, but it made me feel extremely grateful for everything!

And that sums up my 2016 highlights. I am working on my 2017 wishlist/goals so hopefully this time next year I will have a lot more exciting stuff to share with you! And hopefully I am not going MIA from blogging again, because I bloody missed it!

Happy 2017 to all of you!
What are some amazing things that happened  to you this year?
