Gerard Cosmetics Haul, Review & Swatches! Lipsticks & Hydra Matte Liquid Lipsticks

Gerard Cosmetics is one of the high end brands I’ve always wanted to try! Especially since they came out with liquid lipsticks!! I eventually decided to place an order and I bought 3 Hydra Matte Lipsticks & 2 of their normal Lipsticks. I am so in love!

Before I start telling you why I am so happy with my purchase, I’d like to disclaim that I do not care about the drama they had a few months ago. Do not get me wrong, I am against bullying and I reckon they should have kept their opinion about that lady to themselves instead of sharing it on social media – would have avoided all the drama, don’t you think? However that doesn’t make their products any less great and since a lot of people rave about Gerard Cosmetics I wanted to try out some stuff as well.
Let’s start with the price: the liquid lipsticks retail for $20 and the lipsticks $19. The black & gold packaging looks quite fancy and expensive and I love that about them. When you take them out of the box, the Hydra Mattes are a frosted/matte glass with a gold top, while the others are in this beautiful gold packaging. Very nicely designed if you ask me!
Now I know these are high end products and cost a little more than lip products from other affordable brands out there. But I managed to find a 35% off code (I used ‘mannymua’, maybe it still works) so with the discount they turned out to be cheaper than my L’oreal Infallible Liquid Lipsticks (10 GBP).
When I placed my order they also had this deal where you’d get a free lipstick if you spend $50 or more. And since I was really looking forwards to trying some of their products out, I decided to splurge a little. By the way, at the time this post is up they still have this deal on: just go to your cart once it’s worth $50 or more and choose the lipstick you’d like!
Sad story, they came out with 5 more Hydra Matte Liquid Lipsticks right after I placed my order. But oh well, I am happy with my purchase so I will try out these new colors soon!

Now let’s talk about each shade! 🙂

Gerard Cosmetics Hydra Matte Liquid Lipstick – Serenity

In case you don’t know, Serenity was designed by Manny MUA. I think he’s done such an amazing job on this one! They describe it as a ‘beautiful warm pink, with hints of brown’. And that’s pretty accurate. On me it’s a couple of shades of a lighter pink than my natural lips, so I know this will look perfect when I go for more dramatic looks (which I love, so it’ll come in super handy!). Also, it’s very wearable so it would be a perfect everyday kind of color.
I have worn it for 7 hours during which I’ve been drinking, eating greasy food and smoking. It stayed on great. It did transfer on to the napkin after I was done eating, but it was oily food so I thought it’s normal. Other than that it didn’t come on to my cigarettes or glasses, which is great. I did the kiss test on the back of my had, and again no transfer. Good job Manny!
It was also a comfortable wear as they promise, at some point I pretty much forgot I had anything on my lips, so that’s a big plus.
At the end of the night I used a makeup wipe and the lipstick removed really easily. I was a bit surprised because I am used to my Rimmel Provocalips (liquid lipsticks) which take a lot of moisturizing/lip balm before being able to take them off. However when I was doing the swatches I noticed that they are quite hard to remove (by the time I finished with all 3 Hydra Mattes my lips were already sore) so I suppose the longer you wear them for, the easier they come off.

Gerard Cosmetics Hydra Matte Liquid Lipstick – Ecstasygerard-cosmetics-ecstasy-swatch-review

Thumbs up for the name? Hell yeah!! See, when you go on their website and look at the colors, they chose a pretty dark purple for this one… so I was having a lot of second thoughts at first. But then I scrolled down and saw the swatch of it and also looked up some swatches online and I decided that it’s not that bad. And it really isn’t! It’s a pretty muted lilac-ish purple. It’s got a pretty cool undertone so for me I feel like it’s easy to pull off. As we’re coming into winter, I think purple lips go perfectly for this season, so I will reach out for this a lot!
I’ve worn this for just over 9 hours the other day, it lasted great on the lips – no transfer on cups or cigarettes, only some came off on the napkin after I ate – greasy food, again. I feel like after 7-8 hours it started to fade by itself though – I wasn’t doing anything in particular and I noticed that it starts to wear off. However it wore off pretty naturally, meaning I didn’t end up with patchy lips or having more pigment in certain areas than others. It was still an even splash of color, so that’s alright. Still really happy I decided to give it a go.

Gerard Cosmetics Hydra Matte Liquid Lipstick – Invasion

They say it’s a ” gorgeous grey toned liquid lipstick that is aggressively bold but a color you’ll let invade your makeup space”. Yuuup, I’m totally gonna let this invade my makeup space. I don’t know what it is lately but I feel very drawn to gray lipsticks. I should probably blame it on my L’oreal Infallible Liquid Lipstick in Invincible Sable, it’s got to be the one that made me realize cool tones are amazing.
Back to Invasion though. I love this shade. I feel like it’s got a little bit of purple to it, or maybe it just depends on the lighting. Despite the fact that I hadn’t had the chance to wear this for long yet, I reckon it should perform just as well as the other two. I paired it with a bold and colorful eye look and it was an amazing combo. Totally looking forwards to wearing this again, and for longer!

Gerard Cosmetics Lipstick – Underground

Another grey! They describe it as a ‘blend of warm earth tones and cool grey with a touch pink for an ultra wearable lip that is a modern update on a classic nude’. While I don’t exactly see the warm earth tones, I totally agree on everything else. It looks so modern and edgy, I couldn’t help but to add it to my cart!
I have to admit though, I didn’t have high hopes for it. I am pretty much switching over to liquid lipsticks that are matte, transfer proof and last for hours and hours as I pretty much never touch up my makeup. I didn’t know much about Gerard Cosmetics lipsticks so I wanted to go ahead and give them a go. I was thinking it’s just gonna be one of these normal lipsticks that look pretty at first and then half an hour later I wouldn’t have anything on my lips anymore because all the product transferred on to my ciggs, glasses and napkins. Oh jeez I was wrong!
I applied it and then I left the house. 20 minutes later I decided to have a smoke, so I lit up a cigarette and was just doing my thing when I noticed there’s very little to almost none transfer. Impressed doesn’t even begin to describe how I felt. “I hit the jackpot with this lipstick!!!” I told myself, and then I decided to keep putting it to the test: after I got home I had more glasses of water, wine and/or Pepsi, some snacks, and I still had lipstick on. I decided to remove my makeup after 8 hours, I was impressed that a normal lipstick can stay on for that long! Indeed, the color wasn’t as vibrant and my lips didn’t look as full as when I first applied it, but it didn’t exactly fade like ‘Ecstasy’ did – the color was still looking really good eight hours later.

Gerard Cosmetics Lipstick – 1995

I love this shade! It’s such a beautiful brown without being too warm toned, which makes it perfect for me! If I am not mistaken, this lipstick was a collab with Jaclyn Hill. Big thumbs up for the color they came up with! It’s a matte formula/finish but it looks great on the lips and doesn’t make them feel dry.
On their website, they say 1995 is meant to be a ‘timeless expression of glam’. And I totally agree! Especially since the Kylie Jenner lip colors are so trendy right now. I feel like this lipstick worn by itself or paired with a brown lip liner would give you the perfect Kylie inspired color.
However I need to wear it a few more times to decide if it’s a hit or miss. I have worn it yesterday but I paired it with a lip liner to make it even darker and more vampy looking. In the beginning it seemed fine, just like Underground it had very little to almost none transfer on my cigarettes or cups of drinks. But after 5 hours I decided to take a closer look at my lips and I noticed that the color faded away around right inner corner of my lip, where I usually hold my cigarette when I smoke. Not only that, but it was also starting to wear off on the inside rim, which didn’t look very pretty or natural. I would have preferred it if it faded all the same, rather than washing off only in certain areas while remaining quite bold on the rest of the lip. It wasn’t pleasant, but I will give it the benefit of the doubt and blame it on the Primark lip liner (it was the first time I was trying the lip liner as well, so I am not sure about its longevity… but at the same time a liner is supposed to prolong the wear of your lipstick, isn’t it??). As I said, I need to try it out again, and without a lip liner to see how it really performs. At this point I just hope that at this point it’s gonna be just as good as Underground, but I shall see.

And damn, this post is long! This is all for my Gerard Cosmetics Haul and Review & Swatches. I really hope that you found this helpful or at least enjoyed reading my thoughts!

I also did a YouTube video in which I showed you how the Gerard Cosmetics Lipsticks and the Hydra Matte Liquid Lipsticks swatch on my lips. The review is not as in depth, but maybe it will give you a better idea of what the lipsticks look like!

Thank you for stopping by!
