For me, there’s nothing better than a beach holiday. As you might recall from my Cairo travel post, the idea to go to Egypt was quite random. I wanted another break and Egypt was one of the hottest places to go to in October. So I started looking at some hotels/resorts that wouldn’t be too far from the airport, and that’s how I decided to go to Hurghada. It was an excellent choice and it didn’t break the bank either. So what was I up to?
I stayed at the Steigenberger Al Dau Beach Resort (5*) which was awesome. I had a Deluxe Room with All Inclusive and the price worked out to be quite cheap too. As always, I booked my trip with booking.com because they always have great deals and discounts. I had a quite pretty view of the pools and greenery which was something nice to wake up to. On the downside, there were a lot of these blood sucking flies in the room, so don’t forget your insect repellant!
I spent the first two days on the beach. I was planning to spend all of my trip there and relax, but then their employees approached me and offered me to go on a boat trip, a desert safari and book a massage. Apart from the massage, they were all quite affordable so I signed up for everything.
So on the third day I went on a desert safari. It was the first my first time, so I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. Also, I didn’t even know that Hurghada was so close to the desert! After we got our head scarf and got a quick training on how to use the quad bikes, we were off!
We drove the quad bikes through the desert for about 30 to 45 minutes until we got to this small camp sort of place. We were served tea and smoked shisha, but the thing that impressed me the most was the view. I mean look at these mountains in the background, they look so cool!
They had a couple camels there and we went on a brief ride. It was mostly for the pictures and I feel like they weren’t as friendly as the one I rode when I saw the pyramids in Giza, but a nice experience nonetheless. Looking back, I would say that my dune bashing desert safari in Dubai was a lot more mind blowing. But then again my trips to Hurghada and Egypt were a few months prior to that.
When I returned from my desert safari trip I had a photoshoot booked. I thought it would be rather cool to have a professional take my pictures. Low key, I had always wished I had someone to take some bomb pictures of me on the beach! 🙂 Of course, since I travel alone that would be quite hard to pull off by myself. But the shots turned out awesome! Here are a few of my favorite ones.
About an hour or so away from Hurghada there was this small island, named either Orange Island or Orange Bay. I can’t remember… blonde brain. But when we got there the first thing that crossed my mind was, ‘is this real life or am I watching an episode of Keeping up with the Kardashians?’. Look at this beautiful beach and this scenery! Because it was quite secluded, it felt luxurious and I loved it!
We spent a couple hours there and then sailed away. After lunch, we went to a couple coral reefs and I went scuba diving and snorkeling for the first time! It was an excellent experience. A bit scary, but amazing. Funny story actually, I never smile in pictures. Or like 98% of the time I don’t smile in pictures. However, when I was underwater connected to an oxygen tube I wanted to smile at the camera. WHAT AN IDIOT! Needless to say, I swallowed a bit of water and choked hard. Kids, don’t smile at the camera when you’re diving.
And that about sums up my trip from Hurghada. On my last day I chilled a little by the pool, but my flight was quite early in the afternoon so I didn’t have too much free time. I am really happy with this trip though. There were a lot of firsts for me and I couldn’t be more pleased!
Have you ever been to Egypt or to Hurghada? Would you go? What is your favorite beach destination? I also loved Tenerife, it was beautiful and I think you should check it out as well! 🙂
Until next time…
