My Travel Makeup Bag: This is Why It’s Big But Actually Practical

Can you imagine that when I travel my makeup bag is one of the reasons why I always have to buy a checked in luggage? Yes, I am the kind of person that will always put on makeup before leaving the house. Especially when I go on holidays and I want to take a lot of pictures (and selfies) to have as memories. It doesn’t matter if I’m off to London during a cold November or if I’m going to a hot 35+ degrees Egypt, my makeup bag is usually packed. So needless to say my makeup bag is big. Overfilled, even. But it’s practical… as I do actually end up using most of the products I bring with me.

I have to admit most of the products I’m going to talk about today were mentioned before in my blog posts, either in my 2016 favorites or my recent Top 10 under £10. But if you think about it, it makes sense that I bring the products that I know work perfectly and last as long as possible on my face. After all, I wouldn’t want to waste extra space and weight on something that won’t make me selfie-ready, would I? Of course not, my makeup and my brushes already take up at least 3 kilos of my luggage allowance.

I always need a good foundation. My Clinique Beyond Perfecting foundation & concealer is always in my makeup bag. It’s my holy grail foundation at the moment and it looks gorgeous on my skin. If I’m off to a beach holiday, then I will also pack a waterproof foundation. My Urban Decay All Nighter worked great last time, but for my upcoming trip I want to try to see if the Dermacol is indeed water resistant (fingers crossed).

Because I have quite bad hereditary dark circles, concealer is a must have. Again, if you’ve been reading my blog for a while then you wouldn’t be surprised that Tarte Shape Tape is not missing from my makeup bag. Oh, how can I forget about primers? I love the NYX Pore Filler, it makes my skin look flawless!

As far as powders go, I usually just pack a loose powder and leave the pressed ones at home. No point in wasting extra space, since the loose powder is great for both baking and setting. As I mentioned in my Best of Affordable Makeup post, the Rimmel Match Perfection loose powder is perfect because it makes my skin look photoshopped and it doesn’t flash back in photos.

I will usually pack a couple extra bronzers just in case, but I never leave my NYX Highlight & Contour kit at home. It’s very versatile and I know there’s always gonna be a shade that will match me, no matter how tanned I get. If I’m off to a beach holiday, I’ll also bring my Rimmel Natural Bronzer because it says it’s waterproof. As silly as it sounds, I don’t want to look like a ghost on the beach, do I?

Ever since I got the Tarte mini Amazonian Clay blushes a few months ago, it’s usually them that make it to my travel makeup bag.  When it comes to highlighters I am pretty inconsistent. It used to be my Sleek Solstice Palette and my Gerard Cosmetics Star Powder in Grace, but the past couple of trips I actually brought my Anastasia Beverly Hills x Nicole Guerriero Glow Kit.

You must know I cannot leave the house without my favorite setting spray, the L’Oreal Infallible. As far as brows are concerned, again this will be no shocker as I just recently talked about them in my Top 10 under 10: Freedom eyebrow pomade & L’Oreal Brow plumper.

Moving on to eyes… I always bring two palettes because I like to have options. It always used to be my Makeup Revolution Fortune Favors the Brave and my Too Faced Chocolate Bar palette. However, for my next holiday, I might leave the latter at home and bring my Sweet Peach palette on board. It was a gift from my best friend and I love the shadows more than I thought I would!

I always need, need, need eyeliner! The L’oreal Infallible eyeliner is supposed to be waterproof, so I always bring it with me. However, I do set it with powder because the pigmentation is not as great as I hoped. If I’m not going swimming and I’m doing liquid liner, then I’d pack the NYX Matte Liquid Eyeliner. I only discovered it a few months ago and it quickly became a must-have in my makeup bag.

Moving on to mascara. Again, no shocker: Maybelline Push Up Drama Waterproof Mascara is always in my makeup bag. It doesn’t matter if I’m going swimming or not, I have to have it just in case. I used to love the Benefit Roller Lash, but now it’s actually the L’Oreal SuperStar X-Fiber mascara that is my must have for regular days. Sometimes I’d also bring falsies with me. I currently love some Ebay/Aliexpress knockoffs of Red Cherry #217 lashes.

Last but not least, lips. Oh, this is a hard one! I usually have at least a Kylie Lip kit in my makeup bag. Or randomly chucked in my luggage, because who am I kidding, my little bag is already jam packed! I think Jeffree Star’s Mannequin has never missed a trip either. It’s such a gorgeous nude and very comfortable to wear. Apart from these, it will be whichever liquid lipstick I already talked about in my 5 Liquid Lipsticks for Spring&Summer: either a bright Gerard Cosmetics Hydra Matte or a Rimmel London Provocalips.

A new addition to my collection is the Rimmel Moisture Renew Lipstick in 180 Vintage Pink. Yes, shocking. It’s not a liquid to matte lip so I am not sure what happened to me. You might recall I threw away a lot of my normal lipsticks because they were not transfer-proof.Paired with a Jordana lip liner underneath, this color looks stunning! But yeah, it does need reapplying…

And oh boy, that’s a lot of makeup! Sometimes I wish I could be one of those people who only bring a BB Cream and a mascara with them. But who am I kidding, I love a full face more than anything. What are your makeup bag must haves? I’d love to hear what are some products you rely on and cannot leave the house without!

Until next time…
xoxo,
Denisa
